Your orgnaization of subheadings makes sense, except for the position of Stanley's expedition. How does that fit under Conrad's experience in Africa Vs.the Account in HOD?

Intro and thesis are clear. But give an idea of the organization of your page in the intro. You trace the critical reception, but don't set that up in the intro very clearly.

The 1st para. of the overview of the critical reception section needs development. Explain how looking at the critical reception connects to your analysis of the historical accuracy of the work.

You need a citation for this:

"In a letter to William Blackwood, Conrad expressed that the subject of his African story was "very much our time."

This citation should say "qtd. in Murfin" since you didn't read Moser's review, but got if from Murfin:

"Moser makes the insight that “Marlow in the jungle is like the reader in text, that somehow Marlow’s quest for self-knowledge must be doubled by our own.” (Murfin 101-102)."

This is not a sentence: " Ede, building on Achebe’s famous essay “An Image of Africa: Racism in Conrad’s Heart of Darkness.”

This needs a citation: "However it is still disputed whether Conrad’s purpose was to support or protest imperialism, and whether or not he was referring to imperialism in general, or just Belgian imperialism in the Congo." Who disputes this? Who raises these questions? Also, in the previous sentence, you cite Papke, but don't list him in your W.C.

The section on Conrad's experiences is also relying on sources that don't appear in your W.C. It also has a lot of c-s errors.

Several entries in your W.C. aren't cited in the body of your page.

There is some good information in this page, but the writing is uneven in places, and there are problems with effective and approrpriate use of sources in several places as well.
Here are some comments that came to mind as I read your rough draft. They're in no particular order of importance.

1. You need at least 6 sources--among them, obviously, should be Conrad.

2. You have a thesis, but why is the page organized in the way you have it? Why does critical reception come at the end? You need a much stronger intro and a sharper thesis. You need to also set up the fact that you're going to discuss the critical reception of the book.

3.In the paragraph on Imperialism, you have no citations (even though you have a quotation).

4. The information on the Congo sounds more like your notes than paragraphs written for a purpose. Keep the larger, overall purpose of this paper before the reader in all of the sections. Additionally you don't refer to HOD anywhere in this section pointing out the way (as your thesis says) Conrad accurately parallels this historical information.

5. The information on Fredrick Karl is interesting, but what does it have to do w/ the historical accuracy of the book? If you want to say the book does more than give an historical representation, that it also gives an interesting look at psychological issues, that's fine. But set it up that way. But this is a section on the critical reception. Why do you start w/ Karl? How are you tracing the critical reception? Chronologically? Thematically? Tell your reader.

6. Depiction of history in story vs. reality Why does this section come after critical reception? Again, the overall organization of this page needs work.

I just attached 2 PDF files at the very top your page. They are articles on HOD. One is about the "immediate context" of HOD. The 2nd one is a response to Achebe's claims that HOD is racist. Maybe these things will help you w/ parts of your paper.

You realize that you don't have your complete rough draft here yet, right? Remember it's due by midnight tonight.

We have thrown a few ideas back and forth about how we want to approach the layout and structure on the wiki. So, we have started collecting data of different topics, all relevant to the prompt. For example, we have researched history such as African and European history and history of the ivory trade. Additionally, we have looked deeper into the actual text of Conrad's Heart Of Darkness and researched both negative and positive feedback from critics. We still have a lot more work to do, but we are getting somewhere.
Thanks for submitting this, Marley.
A little bit of progress every day will help make this task easier.
